Predicting standard threshold shifts for occupational hearing loss among miners at a large-scale platinum mine in South Africa

چکیده

Occupational noise-induced hearing loss (ONIHL) is associated with various risk factors in South African mines. We investigated the association between standard threshold shifts (STSs) and exposure to noise platinum mine dust (PMD), using demographic data, five years of annual audiometry screening results, data. Miners' age, sex, percentage (PLH), data were gathered, a linear mixed effects regression model used predict STS. Average occupational levels calculated from recorded measurements. A total 12 692 records analysed. Most miners male (89.6%) more than 50% younger 41 years. More 70% exposed > 85 dBA 58% 1.5-2.99 mg/m3 PMD. Changes ranged 8.3 dBHL at baseline (2014/2015) 10 2016 (STS), no changes thereafter. The showed that estimated effect on STS for males was 27% 21% higher females, left right ear, respectively PLH, < 10% each variable. There statistically significant PMD combined noise, levels, strength associations can be this group miners. Our findings may measure efficacy mine's conservation programme.

Occupational noise induced hearing loss in coal miners and coal washing factory workers in Kerman province

Introduction: The occupational noise induced hearing loss is one of the wide spread problems and a long term complication of working in noisy environments. At the present, large groups of workers who are working in noisy environments are exposed to hearing loss. So, this study is aimed to determine the prevalence of hearing loss (more than, 25 dB) of the workers in coal mines and leaching fac...

The prevalence of noise-induced hearing loss among Tanzanian miners

BACKGROUND Tanzania has a young mining history with several operating open pit and underground mines. No prevalence studies of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) have been conducted among mine workers to provide an impetus for the development of comprehensive hearing protection programmes. AIMS To determine the prevalence of NIHL and associated factors among miners in a major gold mining compa...

Hearing protection device usage at a South African gold mine.

BACKGROUND Occupational noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) occurs in many industries despite interventions such as hearing conservation programmes. AIMS To determine the actual and reported use of hearing protection devices (HPDs) in noise-exposed gold mine workers and their reported knowledge, attitudes and practices relating to NIHL and HPDs. METHODS A cross-sectional descriptive study was...

Turning up the volume on hearing loss in South Africa.

Estimates of the world's population living with disabling hearing loss, defined as >40 dB in the better-hearing ear in adults (>15 years) and >30 dB in children (0-14 years), currently run to 360 million people worldwide. Of even more concern is that the majority of those affected live in the low-and middle-income communities of the developing world (South Asia, Asia-Pacific and sub-Saharan Afr...
